Chitra by Tagore

The well know Chitrangada and Arjun’s love story from Mahabharat, recreated by Tagore in his play ‘Chitra’ has a poetic feel to it. The not so beautiful Chitrangada falls in love with the handsome Arjuna to attain him she goes to the God of love -Madana and God of eternal Youth- Vasnta, to beg for beauty and youth to attract Arjuna. She finally gets what she wants but yet she is unsatisfied she is afraid after revelation of her true self Arjuna would reject her. The imagination of Tagore is shown in his writing so wonderfully that his lyrical writing just pulls you to that era. This is not an exaggeration, but a simple truth. One should read to experience what it feels like.
